Brendan: “The racing went really well today. We had a perfect winter day in Oslo, and conditions stayed consistent throughout the race,” said Green. “It's always a great feeling to shoot clean, and when it comes with a personal best result it makes it even better. I'm happy with today, but I know there is still work to be done and improvements that can be made.”

Brendan Solid in World Cup Action

Brendan came through with two solid finishes in his second set of World Cup races this

season, and succeeded in climbing up the individual rankings considerably. In spite of

several long days of travel following a grueling week of trial races in Canmore, he took his

position on the start line ready to complete.

In Friday’s race, the 10km Sprint, he got off to a terrific start, cleaning his first set of

prone targets and placing him with the top 35 of the 114 competitors. The set of standing

targets he found a lot tougher. “Standing  was good in training, but felt crazy hard during

the race. I was on the mat forever and had to take a ton of breaths between shots (I think

due to the altitude and thinner air).” Unfortunately, he had to take two penalty loops which

dropped him back. He managed to make up some time with strong skiing on the last lap to

finish 57th  and secure the 2nd best time for the Canadian team.

In the Pursuit, only the top 60 racers from the Sprint qualify to start. Brendan got off to a

tough start, with three misses on the first set of targets. “It was a bit of a humbling

experience and a reminder of how unforgiving the world cup is …. I left the penalty loop in

last place with no other skiers in sight!” After making a sight correction, his shooting went

a lot better, and he was able to climb back up in the standings to finish in 48th place, and

in his words ”a fairly decent performance in the end.”

Brendan’s impressions of Antholz: “ Antholz is really nice. Its surrounded by amazing

mountains and the venue is awesome. Super fun trails and the set up of the stadium is pretty

neat. The crowd was huge –about 18,000.”

As Brendan had no time to acclimatize to the altitude, and entered the races feeling really

tired, he is confident that he is capable of moving up in the standings. The team will

complete a week or so of altitude training in Italy and Germany before leaving for Korea for

two weeks of preparation for the World Championships Feb. 14-22.
